Miss Allice Evans, a handsome young lady from Freeport is visiting relatives in the city.

Mr. J.T. Crawford late Receiver in the U.S. Land Office at Gainesville died at Tallahassee on last Friday.

CHURCH TROUBLE

There is a miniature Church war going on over in Holmes County, and men that heretofore stood high in the church and social circles, along with being driven from the church, are having some very cruel things said of them by their former brethren.

Jack McQuiler, an old colored man, attempted to jump from a moving train near the depot, last Sunday evening and was thrown under the wheels, having both his feet badly crushed and narrowly escaping death, he was not a passenger upon the train and had no business upon the platform.

Clean up your premise, backyards and out houses, we learn that complaint has been made to the State Health Authorities of the filthy condition of a certain locality, look out, Dr. Porter may drop in on you any day, and the penalty under our present statute is severe.

Mothers, look out for your boys or we will be called upon to chronicle the accidental killing by ears of one of them!  The train employees are powerless to prevent them climbing on and off of moving trains.

$86,000 worth of real estate was purchased by the state, at the tax sale in this county in April.

Comptroller Barnes has reduced the assessment of railroad property in this county from last year’s assessment of $1,112,000.

County School Supt., John A. Campbell returned from Atlanta much benefited by his trip.

County Road Commissioners appointed by the new law meet next Monday.

Mr. G.W. Arras is on a business visit to Jacksonville and St. Augstine this week.

Miss Nancy McLean is reported much improved and her early recovery is now looked for.

Prof. Graham returned from _______ last week.

Miss Missouri Cawthon is engaged in teaching school near Lakeview, and is reported as a most successful teacher.

Miss Jennie Dixon a graduate from the State Normal School is engaged in teaching in Alaqua, her school is highly spoken of by the patrons.

County School Supt. Campbell is pushing school matters, he is now traveling over the county looking after the wants of the school children.

Messes Shear and Finlayson, photographers left DeFuniak for Marianna the 31st…we hope they will receive the liberal patronage of the citizens of Marianna.

There are only three occupants in Hotel de McLeod now---one Wrenfroe for larceny, Nelson for assault, and Will Houston, colored, for breaking into a store at Crestview.

Our young people as well as the older ones have seemed to enjoy themselves very much lately, a t the hops given at the Florida House, and if you think our married ladies and gentlemen have forgotten how to “tip the light fantastic toe,” why, just attend one of these pleasant dances and you will be undeceived.
