AFTER THE BALLOT BOX STUFFERS

United States Marshall Mizell arrested S.A. Page and J. L. McLellan, of Jefferson county, upon warrants charging them with fraud at the November elections, they were taken to Jacksonville and placed under bonds of $1,000 each for their appearance at the next term of the United States court.

This is the county that elected a Representative that said in a speech on the floor of the House, “that the democrats had control of the state they would keep it by fare means if they could, by foul means if they must.”

Senator A.R. Jones is in Tallahassee.

We regret to learn of the death of the little daughter of Editor Payne of the Chipley Times.

The courthouse roof is reported as badly leaking.

The city was full of commercial tourist, during the week.

Mrs. Lizzie McGowan is on a visit to Freeport this week.

County Surveyor Hollowell and family are on a visit to the bay.

Mr. Faye our most prominent farmer is on a visit to the Sandwich Islands.

Prof. Graham and wife left for a tour through the North last Monday.

John White, a prominent citizen and banker of Key West, died in that city on July 29th.

Capt. Mosley, Supt. of the Insane Asylum at Chattahoochie died suddenly at the asylum last Tuesday, he was buried in Tallahassee.

The Pensacola Commercial and Penscolian have consolidated. This combine will not last long, a newspaper to thrive must have the sympathy of the people, this neither the Commerical nor the Pensacolian have, and in a few  months  The News will have another obituary to write.

 FOR POLITICAL REASONS

Sheriff Turner of Putnam Co. was removed by the Governor, about the only reason that can be assigned for his removal is that he is a republican and very popular.

OUR  NEW U.S. MARSHAL

W.B. Saunders received his appointment and qualified as Deputy United States Marshal for the Northern Dist., of Fla. at Jacksonville yesterday.  Mr. Saunders was appointed to fill the position occupied by Capt. John B. Griffin during the last administration.

--Died in this city on the 31st of July, 1889, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Faye; the little sufferer was but three months old at the time of his death, Drs. Allred and Landrum did all that medical skill could accomplish but in vain. “Ere sin could blight or sorrow fade, DEATH came with friendly care, the opening bud to Heaven conveyed, and bade it blossom there.”
