Uncle Bill Lundy
William Allen Lundy was Florida's last surviving Confederate War Veteran and the third left in the United States at his death on September 1, 1957. He was 109 years old. Lundy enlisted in Company "D" of the 4th Alabama Calvary in March, 1864, at the age of 16. He served without rank in this unit known as Brown's Home Guards, until the war's end. He moved his family to Laurel Hill in 1890, where he and wife Mary Jane Lassiter, raised ten children. A large scrap book on Uncle Bill and the Lundy family genealogy can be found at the Baker Block Museum.
