Local News:
It now becomes the duty of the Democratic Executive Committee to
recommend a suitable man for tax assessor, to fill the unexpired term
caused by the death of Mr. JG McLean.
We chronicle one of the saddest deaths which occurred here Monday night
last, that this community has ever experienced. Prof. John G. McLean,
shot himself in the head with a S & W pistol, and died instantly.
Mr. McLean was highly respected by all who knew him, and was tax
assessor of this county. We very much regret the sad occurrence. He
leaves a wife, two little children, besides several relatives including
an aged father and mother, all of whom have our deepest sympathy.
